Cardinal Mistake
There are few things more irritating than preparing for a date, makeup, clothes, hair etc., being picked up (actually, in Israel, that's a real treat) and having the guy say "so where do you want to go?".
I realise that some people like being given the choice of where to go on a first date but I'm just not one of them. If you're going to have the decency to pick me up in a car, have the decency to come prepared with a suggested plan but with the flexibility to change that plan according to the date's desires. You are, after all, trying to show you're a gentleman right? (Again, in Israel this may not be the case) Besides, if it's a first date, why not go somewhere quiet to talk and get to know each other?
Okay, so the point has been made.
This post's subject was actually the opposite. He came in a car, was very nice and polite, even wore a button-down shirt. We got in the car and he drove. He didn't ask, he just drove. To a really nice coffee house in Moshav Ora.
But let's rewind so the title of the post is understood.
He came in to meet my mother who was in Israel at the time, and...He extended his hand to shake hers!!!! (can you hear the horrified gasps/screams in the background?)
Her warm smile froze into her polite one. She had already written him off.
No worries. Once I realized he had already had a destination in mind, I was ready to enjoy myself.
He was a med-student in Hungary (no, I am not looking to marry a younger version of my father!), back home for an extended visit...I can't remember any other details other than the fact that he introduced me to the show "Lie to Me".
But I really enjoyed myself. I was definitely open to a second date.
Apparently I was the only one.
It took the ******** a full week to call me (or did I call him?) and say he didn't have time for dating.
!@#$%
